Here's a unique opportunity for a few of the women in the club to wear test some running clothes!  Just let me know if you're interested and I'll respond to her.
    -----------------------------------------
    Hello -

I am the marketing director for a small women's compressionwear start-up, Aspaeris (http://aspaerispivotshorts.com). We've sponsored the Hartford Marathon for the past two years and the NYC and Philly marathons last year and are looking for running groups to try our shorts and capris and give us feedback. We can offer your running group 1-2 pairs of product and also a promo code for your entire running group if they wish to order.

Our shorts and capris are specifically designed to help improve running performance by improving running form, preventing injury, and speeding recovery. With our patent pending banding system, our shorts act like built in kinesio tape without restricting movement.

Please let me know if your group would be interested in trying a pair or if you have any questions!

    Thanks!

    Dear Running Club Administrator,

I am a Senior Honors student at Bryant University, completing my capstone research project. Like you and your members, I am a runner, and I am interested in the relationship between running, and a personality trait called "grit."

Angela Duckworth, an Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, defines grit as “perseverance and passion towards long-term goals.” The question I am trying to answer is if running is an indicator of grit, or do gritty people run? What is the relationship, and how do running and grit build upon one another?

I would appreciate it greatly if you could help me in my research. Below is a link to a short survey which allows me to explore the relationship between running and grit. Would you please send this survey to members of your organization? You can help me explore the relationship between grit and running. The results of this study will not only help my academic efforts, but also contribute to a greater understanding of running psychology.

All individual survey results will be kept completely confidential. There is no obligation to participate. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions at rvakil@bryant.edu

All the best, and happy running!

From the mailbag from Bob Szwajkos:

    Greetings.

I am an “alumni” runner with Shawmont Running Club in Lafayette Hill PA although I now reside in Newtown PA adjoining Tyler State Part and close to the Delaware River Canal paths where I put in most of my running. I was forwarded a copy of the “Rest Stop” Memo for the upcoming Philly Marathon. I am running the Half, hopefully. I defer to the LONG distance runners for the benefit of this facility. Thank you for the invitation.

I am also a member of the Philadelphia Frontrunners which is celebrating its 30th Year. Organized as an LGBT organization, we welcome all runners. Its base is in Center City.

I am also serving as Chair of Team Philadelphia for the 2014 Gay Games in Cleveland/Akron which will open August 9, 2014. This is the 9th Games and will host more than 10,000 athletes from around the world in 32 sports, rodeo, golf, band and chorus. We welcome all athletes to join in this event. All information is on the WEB.

Please extend this information to your members and if any are interested in the Games, please have them contact me.

We are also reaching out to all of the area running clubs to join together to improve and enhance running and to better organize for registration, etc with the “major races”. We are also affiliated with the ODDyssey Half Marathon in June and the Trenton Double Cross this month.

Team Philadelphia is a federation of LGBT and ally athletes with 12 sports, Rodeo, band and chorus with more than 1,200 participants in its programs which operate 12 months a year. We are affiliated with Arcadia University, Mazzoni Center, William Way Center and numerous other organizations.

Again, if more information is requested, we would be happy to provide it. Thank you for sharing this information.

Volunteers are needed for "Build a Trail Day" from 12 to 4 pm on Saturday, October 19 in Whitpain Township's Wentz Run Park. The trail will connect the park to Union Meeting Road to the benefit of our community. Most of that distance is on Township property, as you can see on this map. (Map: Wentz Run Park Nature Trail Extension).

This follows up on the December 2012 effort shown in this video. AARC volunteers that day were fantastic! We need to keep working to extend the trail to benefit runners and walkers.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=RLHGQ-uXFCw

Volunteers will help to clear brush and limbs, line the trail with fallen logs, spread wood chips, and fill ruts and holes with gravel or dirt. Bring your own lopping shears, yard rakes, shovels, wheel barrows and gloves. We are also looking for volunteers with carpentry skills to help build a temporary bridge.

This will be a "shovel ready" day with the potential to make a big difference in the walkability of Whitpain Township for families and employees in local businesses. Please help us spread the word -- and the wood chips !

This event is sponsored by the Whitpain Township Park & Open Space Board. If you can volunteer, please call or text or email me. Tax-deductible donations, and contributions of snacks and drinks for the workers would also be appreciated.

    Hello!

Philadelphia has been redefining what a great Marathon can be since 1994. Each year since then, the city hosts one of the country’s premiere Marathons along with a weekend-long series of events to celebrate both the run and the runners every November. This year, we celebrate the Philadelphia Marathon's 20th Anniversary, from 11/15-11/17, and expect to welcome over 25,000 runners.

We are bringing the 8K Group Challenge back this year! We invite run clubs, fitness centers, local businesses, colleges/universities, corporations, and non‐profit organizations to sign up a group (5 or more) to run in the Rothman 8K.

Each participant receives a discount on registration, when registering with a group of 5 or more ($35.00 until 10/15 - $10 discount - and $40.00 from 10/16 to 11/1 - $5 discount). Participating groups will have the chance to win awards and prizes for Fastest Group, Largest Group, and more! To sign a group up, please email philly.race@yahoo.com .

The 8K takes place on Saturday, November 16. Start time is at 7:30am. All participants receive an 8K shirt, refreshments, and a finisher certificate. More details at: http://www.philadelphiamarathon.com/races/rothman-institute-8k.

We hope you will join us!

Looking for some good information on treadmills?  The folks over at Review.com have dedicated many hours examining and evaluating over 90 different Treadmills. Based on a number of data points, they were able to narrow that list down leaving us with 19 standout Treadmills. Industry expert Andre Ashley and their research team conducted a thorough review of each of those options, evaluating 68 different features. The end result was a data-driven, non-biased rating for each of those treadmills.

You can see the guide, reviews, and ratings here: http://www.reviews.com/treadmills/

Also, if you're looking to take that step from running on treadmills to running a 5K, check out "A Guide to Take You From Treadmill to 5k" http://www.treadmillreviews.net/a-guide-to-take-you-from-treadmill-to-5k/
